Don't Make Me Think

A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability (2nd Ed.), by Steve Krug. Another great book (OK, so I'm a nerd and I read books)! This one is a must for Instructional Designers who work on the web.

I agree! I'd personally like to see Don't Make Me Think added to the required reading for this program and any like it.

Another good one I'm just getting into is Designing Interfaces by Jenifer Tidwell. It expands beyond the web to other applications, mobile devices, etc.

I haven't seen that one yet. Found it on amazon.com, but they don't show the table of contents. Would you mind sharing some of the topics the author covers?

Basically it talks about the patterns that make up good design for layout, information, and actions.

Here is the book's website: http://designinginterfaces.com/

And the publisher's information: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/designinterfaces/

What I love about this book is that it actually practices what it preaches! How many classes have we taken in IDT that don't exactly practice the very content that is being preached. Less a knock on IDT and more a tribute to this book.

It's one thing to write a speech called "Keep it Simple". It's another thing to actually make sure the speech itself is simple.
