Ah yes, I do remember Macado's - a one of a kind place and a fun place to take first-time visitors to Blacksburg; very unique with all the STUFF hanging from the ceilings, walls, everywhere. Another one of my favorites was that doughnut shop (on College Ave.?) - can't remember the name, I don't think it's there anymore. Blacksburg has grown so much, there are tons of restaurants and new shopping centers..especially around Christiansburg. I couldn't believe it the last time I was there.
Informal learning is great ;) I fondly recall sitting around Backstreets pizza with profs of the Classics & Humanities departments, and I still miss Macado's french onion soup.
You just missed me. I defended my dissertation in the summer of '95 and started at ESU that fall. Lots of hard work in War Memorial Hall, Newman Library, and of course some informal learning experiences with my professors at the beautifully-painted, maroon and orange Hokie House!
