Using Twitter at conferences

Those of you heading to SIDLIT next week might be interested in a blog post I just wrote about how I use Twitter at conferences. I kind of got tired of the too-academic suggestions the conference organizers were sharing.

Technology and classroom cheating

Watching the movie Doubt the other night, I got to thinking about how "technology" has been used to "cheat" in the classroom throughout time. Musings on my blog.

I'm at a research center and not an academic department, so others' situations at KU are likely different--but most of our staff are not allowed to install their own software. They must put in a request with the IT staff. A handful of us are excep...

Who would have ever thought 20 years ago that such a guide would be useful to today's reporters in the web 2.0 world. Multimedia proficiency is becoming a necessity in many, many fields that we would have never dreamed of.

Aaron, I went and checked the admin settings at appearance, HTML editor... #FFFF (white) was set as the background color. When I go to the actual course (ed. or corp.) and select the goofy table, edit, and change to <> (code), I only see #FFFF listed as a color... but I don't know how to read code very well... just obvious things... it might be a border since different tables seem to show different shadow colors. It is the Moodle ghost... we can call him MO (Magically Occurs when you least expect him to).

Hi Aaron. Thanks for your response. You can see the problem by going to www.jenaewiebe.com/moodle and clicking on either ed HuB or Corp HuB and looking at alumni connections heading box. At the bottom there is a drop shadow of gray. I have fixed some of the others... which have shown black... The weird thing this time is that I can find the problem (the color that is showing) when I go to the editing part, I will change the backgrounds, and it still appears. I will send you my password if you would like to look from the admin side of things.

Hi Aaron. If I remember right, you have had some background in the administration and setup of Moodle. Is that right? I am having a reoccurring problem on the IDT HuB site that I developed. I have worked numerous hours trying to get the graphics I created (in Fireworks) match the tables I set up using the Moodle program (not real graphic friendly to say the least). Anyway, for some reason the Moodle program puts drop shadows on the "images" or tables I made for headings. I will edit the background colors and the text colors and check the table properties. It seems that after fiddling around with it for a while I can get it so that it all looks uniform again... BUT THEN a couple days later... it is back to displaying the drop shadows! I have fixed this problem 3x so far and I just checked again this morning and it looks like it is back! Do you have any ideas why this is happening or more importantly... is there any permanent fix to this problem? I like many of the features Moodle has to offer, but I have found many little quirks with the program that seem to be more on the programing side.

I didn't know that there was an option to present online. I guess I have been planning on presenting at Emporia when it is time... if I get finished anytime this year! :)

Thank you so much Aaron. I hope it will help to generate more active participation for both resources (the IDT Hub site I am creating and your social networking site). My project seems to be going slowly and I am feeling the pressure to get moving faster with it... my kids tend to get into mischief every second I start working on it. It is like they have radar alerting them when I am busy and letting them know they can do what they want... from permanent marker all over the carpet... to spilled dark nail polish and cleaned up with a nice shirt... to papers being put into the office shredder! That is a 2 and 3 year old for ya. They could really care less about the homework. :)

Hi Aaron. For my master's project I am developing an IDT online Hub site. I am working on Job search information, resources/tools, in addition to other things for IDT students close-to completion and alumni of the program. I was wondering if it would be ok with you if I posted a link to your IDT Ning site (with credits to you of course :) ) as a way for students to have an access link and a way to get information as well as network with one another. Look forward to hearning back from you.

About Me

Hi, my name is Aaron. I created this network to see how the social networking phenomenon can be applied in mentoring, coaching, and education. This is currently an independent study project I hope to parlay into my final project in the program.

Please use this experiment to connect with other IDT students, alumni and faculty. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the project. Thanks for your help!
