About Me:
I have a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in educational communications and technology and a Ph.D. minor in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. I'm an associate professor in the Instructional Design and Technology Department at Emporia State University. My interests and areas of expertise are in the area of academic success. I travel to high schools and present my million dollar mistakes program to high school seniors, which guarantees they will never get lower than a B, if they follow the Solid A ten step program. I've taught at every grade level from first through graduate school. I've taught Buddhist monks in Thailand and Sri Lanka, technology courses in Beijing, China and elementary school in the Mojave Desert. My wife Deanne and I have written several books including Using PowerPoint in the Classroom and Digital Storytelling. In 2004 I won the scholarly activity award for the Teachers College at Emporia State University.

Picture: My favorite teacher of all time was my kindergarten teacher. After that, school went down hill for me. In order to prevent others from having the same experience I had, I research topics and develop products related to academic success. The purpose of this work is to empowering students to win at the game of learning.

Thanks--I hope to be done by next fall, so I may be seeing you in the digital storytelling course this spring!

That new digital storytelling course sounds interesting--do you think it will be available in the summer and/or fall as well? I'm trying to get a few of my core requirements out of the way--
BTW, I think I should let everyone in on the inside joke. While I was a student in the program, Dr. Howell found that repeating an item three times would add the most empasis possible, after the third repetition items become redundant. Anyway, he then started saying "cool, cool, cool" and it has stuck ever since. Be warned though, this is an addictive phrase... I still say it without noticing it seven years after finishing the program. (Sorry Dusti, just had to share)
Sounds like you got some cool things going on (as always)... If you get the Thailand sabbatical you will have to let me know. I want to visit Asia and Thailand is definately on my list. I am also happy to hear that Vocab Busters 2 (not sure how we are spelling it these days) is getting off the ground.
Lyall and I just finished the Annual Giving Video for the year. The theme this year was David Letterman and I think that we did almost every gag with it possible. I had several faculty/staff members tell me that it was definately our best work yet. We also started sports production last weekend. It looks like I am going to be working with some very talented kids.
